I had this problem since the first time i downloaded Skype 2.0 on my Linux Ubuntu 9.04. It always said "Problem with audio playback" whenever I tried to make a call. I tried the sudo apt-get install pulseaudio, but no luck. So, as usual, uncle Google had to help me with it and I found a solution for it.
Use these commands below on your terminal :
* killall pulseaudio
* sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio
* sudo apt-get install esound
* sudo rm /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio
For those who are very new to Linux (just like me), you better not include the "*" symbol. After you're done with the commands, you can reboot your system and see how it goes.
If you'd like to try with another version of skype (the newest version, which is the beta version), you can go and try it. I tried it once before I re-installed my ubuntu. And it worked good. But after re-installation, it didn't work or it can not be installed to be more specific. It says there was an error. So, now I've figured out the problem, at least thats what I think. When you installed skype for the very first time using terminal, it will give you the old-non beta-version of skype. and it will have that problem above and you gotta follow those steps. But if you installed the newest AKA beta version by downloading the .deb package on here, it will work out perfectly without having to install eaudio or typing any of those commands above on your terminal.
Therefore, now I suggest you to download and use the beta version cuz its much more easier and somewhat looks better.
